Our History

Spotify was founded by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon in Stockholm, Sweden on April 23, 2006. Spotify was launched on October 7, 2008 and became an instant sensation among Europeans. After much anticipation, Spotify launched in the US on July 14, 2011. Spotify is a one of a kind music streaming service that allows users to legally access millions of songs at the touch of a button. Spotify offers free and premium accounts. Free accounts provide access to music when connected through WiFi or cellular data. Premium account users can download songs and listen to them offline. There are currently over 100 million active users monthly. With access to over 30 million songs and 2 billion playlists, users can always listen to something new.

Spotify has partnered with other companies to connect with users through every platform. Spotify users can create an account connected to their Facebook. This allows users to share music with friends and view what their friends are listening to. In September 2016, Spotify linked up with the successful online dating app, Tinder. Now users of both apps can share their own personal anthems and view similar music interests of potential matches.

Spotify is continuing to break boundaries and is willing to go where no other music streaming services have been. Spotify welcomes competition and believes the best music streaming service will prevail.
